Sounds of Space

Sound waves cannot be traditionally heard in space as it is a vacuum. However, electromagnetic waves can travel through a vacuum. These frequencies are picked up by satellites and sped up until their frequency is tuned to our ears.

As a way to allow the general public to hear these remarkable sounds, speakers for each planet are placed up Greenwich Park Hill, relative to their position in our solar system. As you ascend the slope towards Greenwich Planetarium, you travel further into space, discovering the eerie sounds of our universe.
